Tiflis Transportation didn't start with a TMS. They started with a navigation app. In the early days, when the fleet was small and the Chicago operation was still finding its footing, the product that caught their attention was Vektor's Trucker Navigation — a purpose-built routing tool for commercial trucks that understood bridge clearances, weight restrictions, and HazMat routes the way consumer GPS never would. It was the kind of tool that saved a driver from a bad decision at 2am on an unfamiliar state route. For a company-owned fleet just getting established, that kind of reliability on the road mattered more than any back-office software.
Growing from 15 trucks to 30, and then beyond, exposed every gap that a small fleet can paper over with effort. Manual load entry works when one dispatcher handles five loads a day. It breaks when the same dispatcher is staring down twenty. Billing reconciliation that used to take an afternoon starts consuming days. Driver schedule conflicts that could be managed over the phone become coordination problems that need a system. Tiflis hit every one of those inflection points in sequence, and each time, the answer was the same: they needed more from the platform they were already on.
The Vektor relationship deepened because the foundation was already there. The team at Tiflis wasn't shopping for a new vendor — they were asking their existing vendor for more. What they found was that the same company that had built the navigation tool they trusted had also built a full carrier TMS: AI-powered load entry, driver management, automated billing, money code handling for fuel. The features they needed existed. The decision was less a vendor evaluation and more a recognition that they had been using only a fraction of what was already available to them.
The Transformation
Full TMS adoption at Tiflis happened in layers, tracking the growth of the fleet itself. AI Automations landed first, and the impact on the dispatch team was immediate. Incoming load tenders that previously required a dispatcher to open each email, parse the details, and key the load into the system were now being handled automatically. The AI read the tender, extracted the relevant fields, and populated the TMS without human touch. For a team that was managing more freight each month than the month before, this wasn't an optimization — it was the only way the headcount could stay rational as the fleet grew.
The Driver App changed the texture of daily operations. Before, paperwork exchange was a physical and logistical problem: drivers returning documents, dispatch scanning and filing, information that needed to be in the system living on paper in a truck cab somewhere in the Chicago metro. With the Driver App, drivers managed their own schedules and handled paperwork digitally from wherever they were. Signed receipts, HOS documentation, load confirmations — all of it moving through the platform instead of through the office. The time that had been spent chasing documents was redirected to managing freight.
BillIQ closed the loop on the financial side. Before full adoption, billing and driver settlements were a separate, manual process — invoices built by hand, payroll reconciled against trip records that lived in spreadsheets alongside the TMS. BillIQ brought billing, payroll, and driver settlements into a single integrated workflow. An invoice that used to take days to prepare and send went out the same day as delivery confirmation. Driver settlements that required manual calculation were computed automatically from the load data already in the system. The financial back office, which had been the last manual holdout in an otherwise increasingly automated operation, was finally connected.
The Impact
The scale Tiflis reached — 50+ trucks on a company-owned fleet, running fully automated from load entry to settlement — is not where most carriers at their starting size end up. Most 15-truck operations that grow don't automate in lockstep with that growth. They add headcount instead of capability, and they arrive at 50 trucks with a cost structure built for the manual workflows they never replaced. Tiflis took a different path, and the result is an operation that runs with the leverage that automation provides: the same decisions getting made faster, with better information, by a team that isn't buried in process.
Route management became a competitive differentiator in a way Tiflis hadn't originally anticipated. What started as trust in the navigation product evolved into a feedback relationship with the product team. As the fleet grew and route efficiency became a measurable cost factor, Tiflis surfaced specific problems: drivers taking off-route paths that added mileage, fuel stops that weren't being optimized against the route plan, deviation patterns that were only visible after the fact. That feedback went into Vektor's product roadmap. The route deviation control and fuel savings optimization tools that are now part of the Navigation product were built, in part, from the use cases Tiflis brought. It is a relatively rare thing — a customer relationship that moves in both directions, where usage creates feedback that improves the product.
The money code workflow, handled through AI Agents, removed another daily friction point that doesn't show up in any headline metric but accumulates into real time. EFS and WEX fuel codes — the mechanism by which drivers access fuel credit on the road — had previously required dispatcher involvement to issue and track. VektorBot handles that loop now. A driver who needs a code gets it through the platform. The dispatcher who used to field that call is doing something else. Multiplied across 50 trucks and the volume of fuel stops a fleet that size generates in a week, it is a meaningful return on what might look, from the outside, like a small feature. Tiflis understood that from the start, which is why they pushed for it. The platform they run on today is partly the product they helped build.
